All Ireland meeting Cork 7th/8th November 2009 Present – I, B, A, K, S, T, L, L(Aus)
Working groups Feedback: Logistics/Site – Travel will be booked by Tuesday 10th November. Get in touch with J or B if you want to be included in the group booking. Details of the buses can be given to anyone wishing to book their own. Accommodation for the first 3 nights will be booked on Sunday 8th November by J. Outreach - Anti nama protest on Friday 6th November: had a climate camp banner and presence there . Research Info on COP 15 coming together – will be put onto website very soon. Media – unsure what’s going on - molly not at meeting. Finance – N & A - unsure if budgets from outreach and research have been submitted yet? Legal - J - how’s this going? Any progress? Well Being - Ro – how’s this going? Outreach ideas: We could do with someone/group to act as a specific youth outreach person – a buffer/intermediary to reduce intimidation factor for young people to get involved directly with climate camp. International newsletter – network with similar groups from all over the world and let them know what we’re doing, planning, and bounce ideas off eachother. Outreach targeted at www.350.org local groups – good source of interested and motivated people. T - Outreach as individuals in our own communities. I - Using gatherings/events organised by others – have a stall and sign up sheet. Local newspapers and radio (e.g. community diaries) – create (unless we have one already?) a list to send regular press releases by email of goings on/plans. T - Use other events e.g. tree week where the media will already be – use google callenders to find these. Actions to be taken and by whom: T- has useful contacts who might be able to help with research and media. Camp 2010: T – Skills: it’s ok to have leadership when people are skilled in a particular area. K – Camp setup could be publicised as a skills sharing week/weekend – encourage people to really get invested in the camp, bonding, and pro-active practical education (directly fulfilling 2 of the aims of the camp ) = plus a way to introduce more practical workshops into the camp. T – combination of indoor and outdoor activities – moveable. Camp video link – could Dublin Community TV screen this daily while camp is on? Or on the website? Workshops outside the camp - Schools - FORIGE / other groups - Residents associations - Community councils T - Extreme activism: need to soften? (scare people who are otherwise very committed – perceived risk of arrest) L - No, there should be room for ALL types of action in climate camp. Keeping momentum: Achievements and numbers (i.e. of people involved/attending events/signed up to newsletters) – show these on the website so people can see that stuff is happening so that momentum is not lost/people don’t drift away. (Both for us – people involved with climate camp – and those who aren’t yet involved) Do more stuff all year round – actions and outreach events. Eden B – use as an outreach resource and to showcase what individual climate camp members are doing. Videos – capture imagination better than text. Make more use of youtube. T - Traditional skills – getting in touch with people who do this could build momentum toward the kind of positive changes and example we want to set. Collect case studies e.g. of Transition towns/communities to be able to point to these to demonstrate what we are FOR. Shells new campaign – Climate Camp do something with Shell to sea? Stop climate chaos march in Dublin (COP15) (and Cork?) – Climate Camp get involved too? Make a banner. T - Stand at Electric Picnic? And Moondance Galway? – Did it work for Cultivate and FOE? Green gathering in Ulster – is it happening this year? Suggested dates – Jan 16th/17th Suggested locations – Galway Social Space? Belfast? Plan out the year (use online calenders of other agencies to link in with important events) Camp venue 2010: T – nice to showcase land with good projects on: a positive target. I – Highlighting an issue and bringing possible solutions/space to explore possibilities to the doorstep. (Like this year) More approachable/appropriate name – to do with what we do the whole of the rest of the year? Revisit aims and principles. NAMA stance? – Clear message and understanding. I, B – clear message – connections between NAMA and Climate justace – even we are not clear on this! B – want to do something but want to do it right. T – spreading ourselves too thinly? I – we need to have an opinion as it does affect environmental spending and policies. 3. COP 15

What do people think to this? T and I – to research Irish people who’re going / going to be involved – academics, universities, environmental scientists, Irish companies, government semi-state and state agencies – we could get together before so we know eachother, or establish communications with them so we can get information from them/feedback etc. |
