There are local climate camp groups around the country and new ones forming all the time. Local groups are a way to meet people in your area and continue taking decentralised action against climate change throughout the year, and so joining one is a great way to get involved.
What do local groups do?· Raise awareness about climate & social justice.· Put on gigs or other fundraising events if possible.· Meet up and discuss their collective ideas, views, principals.· Do autonomous actions if they wish.· Use local knowledge, lists, media sources to tell people about the camp. · Aim to set up a camp area (neighbourhood) in August or join forces with another group. Dublin group
To get in touch or join up with the Dublin Group sign up to http://groups.google.com/group/campdublin This is an email group that lets you contact and hear from the others in the Dublin group all at once.
We generally meet every two weeks on a weekday evening in Seomra Spraoi off Mountjoy Square, on Belvedere Place, Dublin 1. The times of meetings are usually agreed at the previous meeting or using the email list.
Recently, the Dublin group marched with thousands of others on 6th November and raised a banner to show Climate Camp’s solidarity with those in our country who have done the least to cause the economic and climate crises we face.
On 24th October we set up an information stand at the 350 in the park event to join with others around the world who are working in the movement to bring down carbon dioxide emissions. We swelled the numbers in the demonstration which was organised by residents of Dartmouth Square, and spoke about how direct action in the name of climate justice is necessary and is already being done in Ireland.
In the near future we plan to run screenings of the camp documentary accompanied by public talks throughout the communities of Dublin, to show that the people are the solution to climate change, not the problem.
