We think that how we organise ourselves is just as important and exciting as the final result. From the beginning we agreed to work together without leaders or bosses, and with everyone having an equal say. We believe that when power is shared equally in a group, the process is more effective and sustainable - as well as empowering - for all involved. This means that we encourage everyone who comes to the camp (that means you!) to take part in deciding how it will be run. We use a system called consensus decision-making. Consensus decision-making is about trying to find common ground and solutions that are acceptable to all present. Unlike decision-making by voting, it attempts to ensure that everyone's opinions, ideas and concerns are taken into account. The result is greater understanding between different individuals and groups, and usually a better decision because everyone has thought carefully about it. Everyone who takes part in making the decision feels that they had a stake in the decision and therefore a stake in following it through. If you are not used to this type of thing don't worry, it's simple and it will be explained at the beginning of any of our all-Irelandl or local meetings. You can find out more about the philosophy behind consensus decision-making, and about how it works in practice here: http://seedsforchange.org.uk/free/consens
From November 2008 until August 2009 we had all-Ireland weekend meetings once per month. After the camp in August 2009, it was proposed to hold bigger, more fun all-Ireland gatherings every six weeks. Find out about the next all-Ireland gathering here. Everyone is welcome to come and along and join the discussions. People can get regular updates about meetings and events they can join our (low volume) announcements mailing list: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. There a couple of local climate camp groups around the country. At the camps will create neighborhoods and each will have their own camping space and kitchen if they wish. Local groups are a way to meet people in your area and continue taking decentralised action against climate change throughout the year, and so joining one is a great way to get involved.
